The Location

This delightful little cottage is situated in the tiny tucked away hamlet of Wythop Mill (one of Alfred Wainwright's secret valleys) between the market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth.  There are many lovely walks from the door straight onto Sale Fell and Ling Fell.  Bassenthwaite Lake is within walking distance and Buttermere is also within easy reach, overlooked by Haystacks and the winding Honister Pass.

There are excellent local inns and eateries close by such as the Pheasant Inn at Bassenthwaite, The Wheatsheaf at Lorton, the Kirkstile Inn at Loweswater and the five star Armthwaite Hall Hotel & Spa.

Wordsworth enthusiasts can visit his childhood home in nearby Cockermouth, which is also home to the Jennings Brewery, while the sporting athletes amongst you can head for Keswick with its range of activity companies and the Whinlatter Forest enroute.  This area of the Lakes is blessed with an abundance of wildlife from red squirrel and deer to Osprey.
